Judging for the 2009 Washington Mead & Cider Cup will be held on Saturday August 15th, 2009 at Larry's Brewing Supply, 7405 South 212th Street, Suite 103, Kent, WA  98032.  All Meads, Ciders, and Perrys will be accepted as defined by the 2008 BJCP Guidelines for categories 24 - 28.  (2) 10-12 oz plain brown, green or clear bottles with unmarked caps will be required.  Alternatively, (1) 22 oz bottle or (1) 750 mm capped or cork finished bottle may be submitted.  Cork finished petillant and sparkling entries should have a crown cap or wire cage as well.  Entries of (1) 10-12 oz bottle will be accepted, but may not be advanced to the BOS judging if sufficient sample is not available.  Each bottle will require a bottle label to be attached by rubber band; Do Not Use Tape.

Each  entrant should review the 2008 BJCP style guidelines available at  http://www.bjcp.org/stylecenter.php to determine the appropriate category in which to enter their mead, cider or perry.  Default evaluation for undesignated elements will be as defined by the BJCP guidelines for mead & cider.  Entries will not be recategorized by the judges.

The carbonation and sweetness of each entry MUST be specified.  The Strength of mead entries MUST be specified.  The variety of honey or fruit MAY be specified.  Entries in category 25C should specify the variety of fruit used.  Entries in category 26A should specify the spice(s) used.  Entries in category 26C must specify the specialty nature of the entry. If spices are used in conjunction with other ingredients such as fruit, cider, or other fermentables, then the mead should be entered in category 26C.  Entries in category 28D must specify the spices used or specialty nature of they entry.

Drop off and shipped entries will be accepted at Larry's Brewing Supply from July 27th to August 12th, 2009 at the address above.  Each entry fee is $7.00.  Checks should be made payable to "Larry's Brewing Supply".  This competition will be a BJCP/AHA sanctioned event.
